About

Fleur Deakin is a seasoned artist whose captivating paintings have been featured in solo shows in London galleries, selected by art fairs nationwide, residencies and awards for artistic merit. In 2021, after more than twenty years living, and working as an exhibiting artist in London, Deakin embraced a new artistic opportunity that led her to relocate to Germany. There, she was provided with a studio space to create a fresh body of work aimed at future exhibitions. This journey culminated in her participation in a group show at the Parktheater Iserlohn, held from Jan 15 to 18 June, 2023, in collaboration with Galerie Bengelsträter. The exhibition named LOOKING AHEAD, featured six artists from five countries and explored themes of foresight and innovation in contemporary art, presenting a diverse array of perspectives and mediums. For Deakin, LOOKING AHEAD represented more than just an exhibition; it marked a pivotal chapter in her artistic journey, allowing her to grow and evolve while building meaningful connections within a new environment. Recently, Deakin has settled in Dortmund where she has established a new studio and begun cultivating relationships with local artists and collectives.

Whats to Come

I continue on this artistic journey inspired by the ever changing landscape that surrounds me. The distinct beauty of the four seasons fuels my passion to capture their magnificence on canvas. I draw motivation from the tiniest details—the delicate petals of a flower, the intricate patterns of leaves, and the subtle shifts of light and shadow. This profound connection to nature serves as both a muse and mentor, guiding my hand as I strive to encapsulate its essence within my art.

A central theme in my art delves into the relationship between the natural world and the urban, industrial landscape. The dialogue often unfolds within the city, where vibrant flower-like forms rise amidst urban debris, illuminating abandoned spaces with their brilliance. This juxtaposition serves as a powerful metaphor for resilience and hope. In a world frequently dominated by concrete and steel, the emergence of these exaggerated blooms reminds us that beauty can thrive in the most unexpected and harsh environments.

The flowers I portray transcend mere representations of flora; they embody the spirit of perseverance. They break through the cracks in the pavement, overcoming barriers and illustrating that life has an innate ability to flourish despite adversity. Each blossom, with its vivid colours and intricate details, tells a compelling story of survival and transformation.”
